Warm Them Up
Touching your toes while standing still is so last year’s warm up. These days it’s ‘dynamic stretching’ that’s whipping sport scientists into a frenzy akin to toddlers on Sunny Delight, so get the lads high-kicking while on the move. “When I started playing in the '70s, the coach would just tell you to run round the pitch and do a few stretches and that was it,” remembers Reading coach Wally Downes. Now the ex-Crazy Gang member insists his players do a minimum of 15 minutes to avoid any unecessary injuries. Be warned, fail to warm them up properly and your Christmas tree formation could be left short of a fairy or two.
