Soccer is a beloved sport in the United States and around the world today and many kids are enjoying playing this sport today. However, many people do not really know where the game originated and how it became so popular. You may be interested in learning some more soccer facts if you enjoy playing or watching soccer. So, here are a few soccer facts that you may not have known before.

Where Soccer BeganFirst of all, one of the many soccer facts that many people are not aware of is that soccer actually began in England. It start back in the middle of the 1800s and was a game that was usually played by the rich English class. Often it was played in clubs and private schools, but since it was easy and not expensive to play, it soon became popular with many people across England, even if they were not rich. Still today it is one of the top sports that is played by the common people.

The Spread of SoccerAnother of the many soccer facts you may not know is that after the game of soccer became so well liked in England, it began to spread around. Soon it was spreading like wildfire through Europe, with Germany, Spain, France, and Italy all deciding to try out the game as well. Soon the interest was even growing around the entire world and for the first time in 1900, the games were held at the Olympics and medals for the soccer game were soon introduced.

When the US JoinedIt was not until quite a bit later that the Americans would really enter into the soccer arena. Even though soccer facts show that the U.S. Soccer Federation was first formed back in 1913, it was still until much later with the amazing player Pele, that it became so popular within the United States. Later in 1994, when the World Cup competition was held in the U.S. the game really began to pick up in popularity.
